INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON WORLD CLASS SUSTAINABLE CITIES 2017

The 9th edition of the ‘INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON WORLD CLASS SUSTAINABLE CITIES 2017’ (WCSC 2017) will be held on 10 August 2017 (Thursday) at the Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Themed ‘TRANSFORMING CITIES: DESIGN, NATURE & HUMAN LIVES’, this year’s theme will address and reflect on the current and future urban challenges faced in meeting the demands of an ever-increasing populous nation and achieving high-income economy status. The 21st Century is a century of cities – Cities across the globe are swelling, compounding social and environmental sustainability challenges. Hence, cities have to transform, reinvent themselves and rethink policies that leads to solutions towards millennial challenges. Cities have become laboratories for innovation where innovative ideas, entrepreneurship and social dynamism are incubated, implemented and elevated to the broader national consciousness. The unprecedented growth in urban population will mean that the right strategies and actions need to be in place in order to have cities and towns that cater to the needs of the people towards providing a better and sustainable quality of life for all citizens.

WCSC 2017 will feature 4 esteemed international speakers to share knowledge on international best practices and case studies from other World Class Cities namely:-

(1) Mr Gil Penalosa, Director & Chair of the Board, 8 80 Cities, Toronto, Canada;
(2) Mr Takayuki Kubo, Senior Researcher / Director of Information Strategy Office, Fukuoka Asian Urban Research Centre, Fukuoka, Japan;
(3) Ms Tina Saaby, Chief City Architect, Municipality of Copenhagen, Denmark; and
(4) Mr Stuart Mendel, Managing Director, Tun Razak Exchange Lifestyle Quarter, Lendlease Malaysia.

Since establishing the concept of World Class Sustainable Cities (WCSC) International Conference in 2009, this annual conference series has gained recognition and prominence amongst the industry professionals, City Managers, Government agencies, residents’ groups and city stakeholders on the benefits and challenges faced in becoming a World Class City.

WCSC series is jointly organized by the 3 Partner Organizations: the Real Estate & Housing Developers’ Association Malaysia Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur (REHDA KL), the Malaysian Institute of Planners (MIP) and the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM). With the continued official support and endorsement of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), this 9th WCSC series continues to be an aspirational and constructive platform to educate and engage all stakeholders, as well as showcase international best practices in addressing the benefits and challenges encountered towards becoming a World Class Sustainable and Liveable City by the year 2020.
