THE MALAYSIAN RESERVE. 13TH JULY: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaacob has launched the Ministry of Defence Housing Blueprint 3.0 (BP3.0) to improve the welfare and housing of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM).
This includes army veterans and civilians which is in line with Keluarga Malaysia’s aspirations of preserving the welfare of defence personnel.
Ismail Sabri said this long-term housing project is quite extensive and requires high commitment from everybody.
“The aim is to ensure that more Malaysian Armed Forces Family Home (RKMAT) are built and maintained, more affordable homes are built and more ATM veterans are given new homes and improved existing residences,” he said during the launching ceremony today.
The PM also announced that under the earlier BP2.0 and BP1.0, a total of 4,200 new RKMAT units have been successfully completed and occupied.
“BP3.0 will focus on providing the remaining 12,733 RKMAT units nationwide through five phases from 2023 to 2030. Under the maintained and upgraded programme, 80% of the targeted 7,292 RKMAT units will be upgraded including renovation from two units to one unit,” he added.
Moreover, old furniture which has been damaged will be replaced and a total of 1,700 units will be built for the welfare of ATM veterans nationwide.
More houses will be maintained with the target ratio of one to four units to be upgraded.
“The government is aware of the financial burden that needs to be borne to implement it.
“Therefore, privatisation procurement methods such as ‘build-lease-maintain-transfer’ (BLMT) or Landswap will be considered so that most of the BP3.0 goals can be achieved.”
Four RKMAT projects have been completed including the Segamat RKMAT Camp since Jan 1 while RKMAT Oran in Perlis, RKMAT Pakit and Sri Miri in Sarawak and RKMAT Tok Jalai Camp in Kedah, will be occupied in the near future.
“All these RKMAT projects involve 672 units of various classes. RKMAT Bera in Pahang, and RKMAT Tumbi, Kelantan, will be completed soon,” Ismail Sabri said.
