NEW STRAITS TIMES. 15TH JULY: To help more people in the country own their first home, the government has launched the Keluarga Malaysia Home Ownership Initiative (i-MILIKI).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said i-MILIKI was a stamp duty exemption incentive that applied to instruments of transfers and loan agreements for the purchase of houses.
The incentive, he said, would be provided to first-time homebuyers according to the price tier of the houses.
“Under this initiative, buyers of first houses priced RM500,000 and below will enjoy 100 per cent stamp duty exemption.
“Buyers of first houses priced between RM500,000 and RM1 million will receive 50 per cent exemption in stamp duty.
Also in attendance were Media Prima Bhd Group chairman Datuk Seri Dr Syed Hussian Syed Juniad and Malaysian Real Housing and Developers’ Association (Rehda) acting president Datuk N.K. Tong.
Featuring 40 exhibitors, the three-day carnival is aimed at youths as well as the B40 and M40 groups. It is jointly organised by Rehda and Media Prima Omnia.
“The i-MILIKI is to support the Home Ownership Campaign (HOC) that was introduced since 2019, and continues to be implemented today to assist first-time homebuyers to purchase a house,” said Ismail Sabri.
He also gave an assurance that the government would strengthen efforts to build affordable homes for the B40 group.
“Such effort is undertaken by several government agencies and home providers, at both the federal and state level.
“The People’s Housing Programme (PPR) will continue to be strengthened with new directions and components that will enhance its liveability,” he said.
The government, he said, would build more affordable houses in the country.
He said among the initiatives would be reactivating the National Affordable Housing Council (MPMMN), implementing HOC and PR1MA’s rent-to-own scheme.
On the carnival which is being held at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre here until Sunday, Ismail Sabri said such a strategic partnership between the Housing and Local Government Ministry, Rehda and Media Prima Bhd would help to increase house ownership among those in the B40 and M40 groups.
“I know we are facing various economic challenges. We must continue to assist the people, especially strengthening the home ownership agenda that will be carried out through a more structured initiative planned by the ministry (Housing and Local Government).
“Therefore, I support the proposal for this carnival to be held nationwide to explain and provide information to the people about all the initiatives that are being carried out by the government to help them own a house,” he said.
