10 firms eye projects in Indonesia’s RM154 billion new capital

FREE MALAYSIA TODAY. 8TH JANUARY: Ten Malaysian companies have given their preliminary commitment to participate in the US$35 billion (RM154 billion) development of Indonesia’s massive new capital, Nusantara, in eastern Kalimantan.

The companies exchanged letters of intent, witnessed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim who is on a two-day official visit to Indonesia, his first visit abroad since becoming prime minister on Nov 24.

Bernama reported that the companies involved were:

  • Success Electronics and Transformer Manufacturer Sdn Bhd – to implement smart LED street lighting;
  • Carsome – to digitalise the automotive trade in Nusantara;
  • Olympic Cable Company (OSK Group) – to expand its products including control cables, instrumentation cables, multicore cables and telecommunication cables;
  • Boustead Properties Bhd – property development and knowledge sharing in developing and nurturing sustainable smart intelligent townships;
  • Berjaya Corporation Bhd – to offer expertise in solid waste management, drinking water supply, property and housing development and smart city technology;
  • Pharmaniaga Bhd – affordable and quality healthcare products and services;
  • Alliance MEP (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd – to provide professional services;
  • Protasco Bhd – to develop infrastructure and government housing (through HCM Engineering) and to develop renewable energy and charging stations (through i2 Energy);
  • Reneuco Bhd – to provide sustainable energy and utilities services; and
  • Tenaga Nasional Bhd – to explore and participate in the development and operation of energy solutions.

Anwar also witnessed the signing of nine memorandums of understanding involving Malaysian companies.

Among them was the one between ASIC Offshore and Marine Sdn Bhd and PT Dok dan Perkapalan Kodja Bahari which has an estimated value of more than RM500 million over two years.

Both companies aim to capture market share for engineering, shipbuilding, ship repair, financial investment for production instrument and production facilities, onshore and offshore engineering, fabrication, and for business shipbuilding and ship repair from national shipping companies within the Indonesian region.

Aviation firm Airod Sdn Bhd and PT Dirgantara Indonesia also signed an agreement for a five-year modernisation project with a potential value of RM660 million.

Other Malaysian leaders present at the ceremony were international trade and industry minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz and foreign minister Zambry Abd Kadir. The Indonesian side was represented by its foreign affairs minister Retno Marsudi and public works and housing minister Basuki Hadimuljono.
