FREE MALAYSIA TODAY. 22ND JULY: Selangor caretaker menteri besar Amirudin Shari says he will focus on the housing areas built in the 1970s and 1980s if given the mandate again.
Selangor caretaker menteri besar Amirudin Shari has plans to redevelop the low-cost housing in Ulu Kelang if Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) are given the mandate to lead the state after the elections next month.
Amirudin said having led the state since 2018, the plan that he wants to focus on is redeveloping the housing areas built in the 1970s and 1980s.
“If we are given the mandate, within the first year, I will return here and also target other areas throughout Selangor.
“We will rebuild your homes and improve on the accommodations by having two to three bedrooms,” he said in the PH-BN ceramah in Ulu Kelang.
The Gombak MP said he was confident that the plan can be materialised because the federal and state governments are led by the unity government.
“If we change direction (change the state government) purely out of a desire for change without any reason, following our emotions, in the end, we will repeat the past history (when PH first took over the state in 2008) where we were unable to do anything,” he said.
On Tuesday, PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim announced that Amirudin will continue to serve as Selangor menteri besar if the coalitions in the unity government win the state polls on Aug 12.
Meanwhile, Selangor Umno chief Megat Zulkarnain Omardin explained that the decision to make way for PH in Hulu Bernam was to demonstrate the party’s willingness to negotiate with its unity government partner.
It was previously reported that Umno had given the Hulu Bernam seat to PH’s Amanah in exchange for Jeram.
He also called for Umno members in Hulu Bernam to give their support to the PH candidate there.
“On July 23, I will be going to Hulu Bernam to meet with the entire leadership of all four levels of Umno and BN there, so that they can begin their task of assisting the PH candidate that will be announced later,” he said.
Earlier, Megat was announced as the BN candidate in Gombak Setia. He thanked BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for nominating him for the seat.
He also expressed his gratitude to Anwar for agreeing to make way for BN there.
