THE EDGE MARKETS. 23RD NOVEMBER: A total of 30,290 units of completed houses worth RM19.75 billion nationwide were unsold as at the third quarter of this year (3Q21), compared with 31,112 units worth RM20.1 billion as of 2Q21, the Dewan Rakyat was told on Tuesday (Nov 23).
Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Abdul Mutalib said this showed a drop of 2.64% in number and 1.74% in value of unsold units quarter-on-quarter based on data from National Property Information Centre (NAPIC).
“Although not obvious, there was a drop in the number of unsold houses after some developers reduced prices or gave discounts to clear the overhang in supply amid the uncertain economy.
“This was proven by a drop in the house price index in 3Q21 to 198.6 points compared with 199.9 points in 3Q20, representing a drop of 0.7%,” he said during the question-and-answer session.
He was answering a question from Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub (Barisan Nasional-Machang) on the number of unsold houses as of September.
