Now more can own houses

THE STAR. 19TH JUNE: About 67,944 units of affordable homes in the Federal Territories have been approved for construction this year, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The units were located at 104 housing projects in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan under the Federal Territories Ministry’s ‘Residensi Wilayah Keluarga Malaysia’ initiative, he said.

 “The government is committed to ensuring that all the housing offered to Malaysian Families can meet current needs and have environment which is comfortable, conducive, family-friendly and practical in line with the One Family, One Home vision.
“The government through the 12th Malaysia Plan and the National Affordable Housing Council has outlined immediate and long-term measures to realise this aspiration.
“The Housing and Local Government Ministry has also introduced the Home Ownership Programme to set up a more comprehensive ecosystem in the provision of housing, financing and programmes that can help Malaysian families own their own homes,” said Ismail Sabri in his speech during the key handover ceremony for residents of SkyAwani 3 Residences.

Also present were Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim and Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah.

The ministry, said Ismail Sabri, had also recently launched a council home project, which was meant to help the B40 low income group rent homes in the city at affordable rates.

“The ministry is targeting to construct 5,000 council home units between this year and 2027.

“As of April, 10 sites have been identified for the construction of council homes in the Federal Territories. Some 1,251 units in Sungai Udang and Segambut are fully completed,” said Ismail Sabri.

Developed by SkyWorld Development Group, SkyAwani 3 Residences is part of the “Residensi Wilayah Keluarga Malaysia” affordable homes project by the Federal Territories Ministry.

Located in Setapak, the property comprises 1,905 three-bedroom and two-bathroom units with a built-up size of 800 sq ft.

Priced at RM300,000, the units were sold out as soon as they were made available.

It boasts 22 recreational facilities, such as a swimming pool with jacuzzi, games room, basketball court and a gymnasium.

All the units have received the QLASSIC (Quality Assessment System in Construction) certification from the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) for the affordable housing category.

Recently, the SkyBridge located on the 52nd floor of SkyAwani 3 Residences was awarded the title of Highest Residential SkyBridge in Malaysia by The Malaysia Book of Records.

Ismail Sabri said SkyWorld had also provided a children’s playground, which was usually only found at luxury home projects costing more than RM500,000 per unit.

“This is an added value provided by the developer for owners of the affordable homes for the well-being of the Malaysian Family,” he said.

Ismail Sabri commended developers like SkyWorld for helping the government to provide affordable homes for city folks.

“SkyWorld is planning to develop their ‘Awani’ housing series, taking on the government’s call to provide 500,000 affordable homes under the 12th Malaysia Plan.

“The government welcomes the commitment of developers to help make this programme a success and help realise our aspirations of providing affordable homes, particularly to city dwellers,” said Ismail Sabri.
