FREE MALAYSIA TODAY. 15TH JULY: First-time homebuyers of property costing up to RM500,000 will not have to pay stamp duty on purchases made through the Keluarga Malaysia home ownership programme from June until December 2023.

Those buying homes at RM500,000 to RM1 million will enjoy a 50% discount on stamp duty, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced, Bernama reported.

Ismail said Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) figures show that stamp duty exemption claims under the home ownership campaign came up to RM957.8 million, with the highest amount claimed for houses below RM500,000.

He said the stamp duty exemption was introduced with the home ownership campaign from 2019 to 2021, and was being continued for homes below RM500,000.

Ismail said he hoped more affordable housing can be provided by housing developers that meet the income limit of Malaysians based on locality.

He made the announcement while opening a home ownership carnival in Kuala Lumpur today.
